Parks Department Recreation Programs

The Hammond Parks & Recreation Department has five outdoor ice rinks located at Edison Park, Pulaski Park, Irving Park, Hessville Park, & Riverside Park. The outdoor rinks open depending on the weather. For more information call Hammond Parks at 853-6378.
The Hammond Parks & Recreation Department and the Hammond Police Department run the Hammond Safety Village Camp. The Safety Village is located at the Hammond Civic Center. The camp teaches students about being safe on the streets, street sign education, railroad crossing safety, stranger danger, water safety, and more. Please call 853-6378 for dates and times.
  • Ballroom Dancing is held each Wednesday from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Jean Shepherd Community Center. Admission is $5.00, coffee and cookies are available.
  • Volleyball is played on Mon., Weds., and Fri. mornings from 8:00 – 10:30 a.m. at the Civic Center. Open to Civic Center Members only.
  • The Civic Center is home to the Senior Nutrition Site operated by Greater Hammond Community Services. Come and join us for lunch Monday through Friday. There is a daily fee for lunch, please check with the Site Staff for fees. A $5.00 Civic Center ID Card is required. Cards can be purchased in the Civic Center Business Office.
Children will enjoy arts and crafts, board games, sports and more.

Site Location: Jean Shepherd Community Center – 3031 J.F. Mahoney Drive – Hammond

Program is offered on Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Program is open to 5 – 12 year olds.

There is a $5 per child fee, Birth Certificate and proof of Hammond residency is required at time of registration. Registration must be done at the Hammond Civic Center or the Jean Shepherd Community Center. There will be a $1.00 per minute fee assessed for late pickups.
