A formerly vacant building in downtown Hammond is being revitalized and celebrated with its grand opening and ribbon cutting on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 2:00pm. The HUB of Innovation, at 5233 Hohman Avenue, is an extension of the Hammond Innovation Center, in partnership between the Redevelopment Commission and the Hammond Development Corporation.

The HUB, which stands for Hammond Understands Business, is a new avenue for cultivating business and job creation through small business development and internship opportunities. There, local university and high school students will be introduced to business tenants, resulting in new and prosperous opportunities for both the interns and the business owners. Transitioning these interns into small business owners is the foundation of potential career employees for Hammond and beyond.

“The City of Hammond has shown that it believes in entrepreneurship and the small business and the impact of both on the economy and development of the downtown business district,” says Mayor Tom McDermott Jr. “This type of incubator, with its innovative technology, presents the City with encouraging new avenues and creativity in business development.”

Come and be part of the excitement on the 16th and see the state-of-the-art 3D printers, electronics, and training room available to the HUB’s tenant entrepreneurs. Please contact Sue with any questions at 219-750-1200.
