Hammond Mayor, Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. in conjunction with the Hammond Parks and Recreation Dept., 4thDistrict Councilman William Emerson and the Hammond Board of Parks Commissioners began the revitalization of Edison Park today with a ground breaking ceremony.
Upon its completion Edison Park will be a park that is family friendly where parents and children can have fun together. The park will boast two artificial turf mini soccer fields with dasher boards, new playground equipment including accessible fall zone surfacing, new park benches and swings, walking path, agility course, concrete bean bag boards, a skate area and community shelter. Something for everyone!!
Gough Construction, of Merrillville, is the general contractor with MCR Partners/HWC Engineering as the design team for this project. The park will be closed while construction is under way. The improvements will take approximately six months and is projected to be completed by the end of October 2018. “I know it will be an inconvenience to be unable to use the park during construction,” stated Mayor McDermott. “The end result will be worth the wait.”
“This is just the beginning of improvements slated for Hammond Parks,” stated Mayor McDermott. “The citizens of Hammond will see improvements at Hessville, Martin Luther King, Jr.(MLK) and Pulaski Parks within the next year to 18 months.”
