Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr., Hammond Parks and Recreation Department, 6th District Councilman Scott Rakos, 5th District Councilman Dave Woerpel and Hammond Board of Park Commissioners began the enhancement to Hessville Park today with a groundbreaking ceremony.
When completed, Hessville Park visitors will enjoy an Interactive water feature, poured-in-place safety surfacing in the playground area, new concrete style skate park, a quarter mile walking path along the perimeter of the park, additional onsite parking, new washroom facilities, an additional shelter near the water feature, landscaping and other improved park amenities.
The park will be closed east of the ballfield while under construction. The majority of improvements will take approximately five months and is expected to be completed by the end of November. Residents are asked to use the playground at Caldwell Complex (one block east of Hessville Park) or Dowling Park (several blocks south of Hessville Park) during this construction project.
Gough Construction, of Merrillville, is the general contractor with SEH Engineering as the design team for this project.
