Hammond Mayor Thomas McDermott, Jr. has announced that due to the extreme heat expected this week, the City of Hammond has identified several buildings as cooling centers, including: The Jean Shepherd Center, the Lost Marsh Golf Course Clubhouse and Hammond City Hall.
Individuals may use these facilities during regular operating hours if necessary to cool down from temperatures that are predicted to remain high through the weekend. Also, the splash pad at Hessville Park is a great way to cool off and is free to the public.
“I would ask our residents to check in on their neighbors, especially senior citizens who are most vulnerable by the extreme heat,” stated Mayor McDermott. ”Stay hydrated and wear lightweight, light-colored clothing. If power outages occur and it becomes necessary, we will open the Jean Shepherd Center and Lost Marsh Clubhouse overnight”
